One of our college’s six core values is Honor God. I’ve had a number of prospective employees tell me they wanted to work for us because of this core value.
I recently came across an example of how God can help us from elementary school children. A fifth grade teacher in a Christian school asked her class to look at TV commercials and see if they could use them in ways to communicate ideas about God.
Here are a few of the results:
God is like a Bayer aspirin
(He works miracles)
God is like a Ford
(He’s got a better idea)
God is like Coke
(He’s the real thing)
God is like Wal-Mart
(He has everything)
God is like Scotch tape
(You can’t see him, but you know he’s there)
God is like Allstate
(You’re in good hands with him)
God is like Delta
(He’s ready when you are)
God is like Bounty
(He’s the quicker picker upper, can handle tough jobs and he won’t fall apart on you)
God is like the Energizer Bunny
(He keeps going and going and going)
One has to love the creativity and simplicity of a child’s thinking. The common theme throughout each of these creative thoughts is, God is always there for us and is ready to help us if we but ask.
As we Honor God and recognize the powerful influence he can have in our lives, I hope we will invite him to join us in all aspects of our lives.
