Captain Kirk

This past weekend I turned 65 years old. Now, I’m Social Security eligible, I get discounts at the movie theatre, and get called “Sir” a lot more than I used to. The good news is that I feel great, love my work, enjoy life and can’t wait to explore life’s next adventure! Even though my body says “No” at times, my mind says “Just do it!”

While growing up my grandma (who I loved dearly) used to say “You’re only as old as you think you are!” I love that quote and fortunately still think of myself as forty-five years old for some reason (Until I look in the mirror that is!).

The great comedian and humanitarian Bob Hope lived to be 100 years old! His zest for life was ever present. When he turned seventy he said “I still chase women, but only downhill.” When turning eighty he said “That’s the time of your life when your birthday suit needs pressing.” On turning ninety he said “You know you are getting old when candles cost more than the cake.” On turning 100 he said “I don’t feel old, in fact I don’t feel anything until noon, then it’s time for my nap.” Bob Hope loved golf as I do and said of golf “Golf is my profession, show business is just to pay the green fees!”

Oh, that we could all have a sense of humor and love of life as Bob Hope did!  I’m convinced have a great sense of humor adds both years and quality to one’s existence on this earth.

I made up the following quote this morning as I was thinking of this topic:

“It’s not the years, but rather, what’s between the ears, that count.”
